- Volume 2 Chapter 6.1 - Drama: Espressivo of Light and Darkness Part 1 (1)
Even though he had been selected to join the student council, the classes for the servant course would still be held as usual. Even that day, he had been taking classes to become a servant since the morning.
A servant is generally required to be a generalist, rather than a specialist. Hence, the lessons were also broad and shallow, and this time they were to learn magic.
However, the magic in this world is not that developed.
This was in line with the history of the previous world. In the prehistoric world, developed magic enriched people’s lives, but in the aristocracy, magic was not so developed.
This world is a reflection of that reality.
On the other hand, there has been a certain amount of progress in the use of magical tools. This is probably because we wanted to create a world that players could relate to, even though it is set in an era of aristocracy.
For example, the scenery of the town is beautiful, because of the water and sewage fixtures. The spotlight falls on the two dancers on the stage because of the presence of a light spell.
Only the magic tools that are necessary for the production of the story to be beautiful are prominently developed.
The reason for the reality in this world is probably because successive generations of nobles have considered them important. The aristocrats of this world, which has been in a long period of peace, put a lot of emphasis on hygiene and elegance.
Hence, the content of magic taught in class is mainly about magic tools. It’s a good idea to be able to have knowledge of what kind of magic tools are available and how to use them.
It was supposed to be that way, but–
“Write a report on your use of magic.”
A class that taught no practical skills – Tristan, who is in charge of miscellaneous studies, cut it out as such.
As a servant, it is your duty to consider all possibilities and be useful to your master. In the name of such, he put on the agenda how to utilize magic in his work as a servant.
Professor Tristan has so far earned the trust of his classmates. The classmates write their reports without complaining.
But for me, it was a difficult assignment.
Because, I know how the developed magic is used in everyday life. For example, there is wind magic and cleaning magic that uses a cloth to collect dust in a room.
The magic in this world is not developed and cannot generate strong winds that would collect dust. However, it has been proven in the previous world to be a very useful magic if you can handle it.
Even if you wrote that as a hypothesis, it would be dismissed as a pipe dream. But if you write a report at a practical level, there will be an uproar. Knowing the results, I can’t decide what to write about.
After some hesitation, I decided to write about the use of existing magic.
For example, if you use the magic of light as a surprise attack, it can be used to blind you, and if you converge the magic of wind, you can make your opponent suffer a cut. It could be useful in attacking in places where your opponent is un-armored.
I wrote such a safe report.
I turned in the report and the day’s classes ended. I was planning to go to student council after school, but I was stopped by Tristan again.
“What is it? Did you find anything wrong with my report?”
“No, I’m good with that. It’s a bit mundane for you, though.”
“I’m sorry about that. I’ll do better next time.”
My goal is to be a very good butler within the bounds of common sense.
Judging from Tristan’s reaction right now, I’m probably carrying too much weight. I judged that, and I promised myself that the next time I had a chance to speak up, I’d go a little further with my opinion.
“By the way, you said that this is a different matter?”
“Yeah, I have a few questions. I heard that you’ve been accepted into the student council. Not only you, but also Miss Alicia and Prince Alforth. Isn’t that right?”
“You’re a quick learner.”
”Yet, that fact is only known to a few who attended the tea party. I didn’t force a gag order, but I don’t usually touch such stories.”
”It’s just that they have a strong amount of Tea Party participants in this class.”
“That in itself isn’t surprising, but I’m sure it’s not my imagination that I’ve had the oddest opportunity to talk to them lately… They’re probing me on a lot of things.”
“I have an idea why.”
It’s probably because the daughter of the Lord he serves – that is, because Foru and I are getting involved.
But if he’s going to be wary of me and the young lady, he shouldn’t have brought us together. And yet, he was the one who told me about joining the student council.
There must be something behind it, but I can’t guess what it is at this point.
Nevertheless, it is not strange or unusual for a butler to investigate those around him or her to protect the Lord and his or her relations, so it is not alarming that they are being probed.
There’s nothing to feel guilty about, so we’ll just have to wait and see for now.
“By the way, is the only thing you want to talk about?”
“No, there is something else. As you know, the school festival is in a few minutes. You’re the head of your class and you’re busy with student council, right?”
“Are you going to be… busy? I’m still not quite sure I understand the work of the student body.”
“My guess is that I’m going to be busy. So, before that happens, think about who you want to represent your class.”
“Delegate … anyone?”
“Well, I like a guy who’s competent, who can communicate with others. I need you to focus on the student council, okay?”
“…I see. Yes, sir.”
He may be wary, but his intention to be active in the student body seems genuine. There may be a lot of complications in that area.
Be that as it may, the representative of the class, huh?
Originally, the second seat – Raymond – would have been appropriate, but he has lost the trust of his classmates once. Their relationship has improved after his reconciliation, but it’s probably too soon to let him be the acting representative.
As I leave the doctor’s office with that thought in mind, Luke and Chloe approach me.
“Cyril, what was that all about?”
“Oh well actually – I’ve been asked to pick a substitute for the class representative.”
“Well, you’ll be busy with the student council, won’t you?”
Luke groans as Chloe slaps him on the head.
“What are you doing, Chloe?”
“What am I doing? What are you doing!? I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but I doubt that it’s anything good.
“Oh…?”
