Starting Out As A Goblin Summoner - Chapter 40
Up front, Green Skin had started to provoke the spiders, mocking them loudly and hammering his weapons loudly on a nearby tree.
Perhaps because Green Skin was born with a contemptible face, its mockery well and truly drew the spiders’ scorn upon himself.
The male gray-headed huntsman spider brazenly leaped higher up the trees then, its monstrous form somehow proving capable of dangling among the branches.
However, as it leapt up into the air, its gray-white abdomen was exposed.
Digging its right talons deep into the ground, the red-caped fowl reared its head skyward and breathed a shot of flames.
It hit the spider with supreme marksmanship.
Its abdomen abruptly shrunk inward and a drip of white fluid was squeezed out of its rear tip.
The flames appeared to have hurt its abdomen seriously.
In fact, the spider seemed to be extremely vulnerable to fire. After it was struck, it promptly leaped backwards to get away from Chen Yining and the others.
Meanwhile, the female spider appeared displeased with the male’s fleeing and shrieked indignantly at the male twice.
In response, the male spider stopped in its tracks and turned around to look at the female spider.
Nonetheless, after clicking its mandibles in annoyance twice, it reluctantly moved to confront Chen Yining’s group again.
At the same time, the female spider remained where it was, sprawling itself over the ground so that its bloated abdomen was laid upon even ground as much as possible, even as it stared at the red-caped fowl warily.
It must be being cautious about its children, which is why it did not take the initiative in attacking.
In contrast, the male spider was frightened of the female spider, seemingly having been subjected to strict spousal discipline.
As it headed for its rematch, both Green Skin and the red-caped fowl had split, flanking the male spider on its left and right sides.
It was left pacing back and forth, unsettled and constantly looking back and forth between Green Skin and the red-caped fowl.
“Screech!!!”
The forest echoed with its cries of utter anxiety.
Regardless, the summoned beasts’ tactic seemed to be effective. It could not protect both its flanks even as both Green Skin and the red-caped fowl closed in from different sides, not to mention that its mate did not come forward to help it…
Instead, the female was endlessly spitting more silk around itself to build a protective circle. It indifferently kept the male spider outside the barrier while it remained crouched on the ground, its abdomen squirming endlessly, contracting and expanding…
Be that as it may, the male gray-headed huntsman spider ultimately decided to lock its gaze on the red-caped fowl.
Its fire breath did hurt it grievously just a moment ago, after all, and its simple mind judged that the bird posed a great threat.
Then, as the red-caped fowl charged toward the male huntsman spider, Green Skin followed suit from the rear as well.
The male spider dodged the bird’s blow. Its massive body appeared prepared this time and managed to evade its fire breath.
Using three of its legs to hold itself steady, it pushed—its entire body springing like a fluffy pudgy man bouncing off a tree branch.
Nearby, after having slowly making its approach, Green Skin suddenly moved.
Still like a mountain but moving like thunder, its terrific form burst out with unprecedented dynamic force.
Its streamlined muscles were brimming with violent explosiveness.
Snarling in rage, Green Skin grabbed a branch with its left hand and stomped its right food on the tree behind.
“Gobbo!”
Pushing itself with that momentum, it threw out the rebar it was holding with its right hand like a bolt from the god of thunder.
It turned into a black, blurred afterimage as it shot forth.
Whoosh!
It tore through the air, causing a sharp whistling as it bounded forward.
“Screech—”
The male gray-headed huntsman spider abruptly tightened the rear tip of its abdomen—the curbed rebar which was +1 in sharpness and hardness thanks to gnome crafting had struck it there.
The thin layer of gray-white fur over it did not stop the projectile at all, and its abdomen split apart, exposing the tender, milky-white innards inside.
Half of the two-meter-long rebar had plunged into the spider!
Maimed, the male spider’s entire body tightened inward like a bow.
Milky-white fluid was gushing out from its wound.
Each of its legs was pulling into itself and it resembled the fearsome talons of a bird of prey when seen from afar.
Either way, it was an extremely serious blow to the male gray-headed huntsman spider.
It abruptly turned around, all six eyes on its head glaring ferociously at Green Skin in wounded rage and cruelty.
“Hiss—”
Three of its legs swiped out toward Green Skin rapidly, striking out like dark phantoms toward Green Skin.
The seemingly plain black legs of the spider were actually incredibly sharp, tearing through branches along the way with great ease.
Green Skin promptly leaped aside, but all three legs had craftily covered all angles.
As such, after Green Skin managed to dodge the first two, the last leg came at it from an angle it could never hope to dodge. Nonetheless, in the direst of moments, Green Skin shifted so that the leg only brushed over its arm.
For the male gray-headed huntsman spider, it was as if its leg had only reached Green Skin’s arm with the faintest of touches. To Green Skin, however, it was no different from having a spear pierce his shoulder.
Its shoulder muscles were pried apart forcefully, the torn section left ragged as if serrated and a large chunk of flesh dangled outward. Green blood flowed freely from the wound, and it certainly was a gruesome sight to behold.
That was when the red-caped fowl saw its chance. Spreading its wings, it was about to attack the male spider’s defenseless rear…
But then the female spider, which was basically absent through it all, moved.
Clenching its abdomen—as if using any degree of strength right now was extremely taxing—it then opened its mandibles, spitting out a massive stream of silk fluid.
The female spider had even given enough lead so that it fired the spot just behind the male spider, because it had determined that it was where the red-caped fowl would charge into.
Still, a cunning twinkle appeared in the red-caped chicken’s eyes then.
It suddenly stopped flapping its wings and screeched to a halt.
In that split second, its wings seemed to turn redder.
Either way, it did not continue forward, and breathed a large jet of flames instead!
The surging fire engulfed everything ahead, incinerating every withered leaf and leaving the very air twisted.
The male spider, which just had its butt pierced by a rebar, was immediately struck by the flames. The fires streaked along its wound into its insides, rendering it in an anguish that was beyond words.
The rear tip of its abdomen was now charred and it could not even hold itself then—as its abdomen shrunk within its own body, it dropped down from the branches to the ground with a resounding slam, its legs flailing wildly at the skies.
Seizing his chance, Green Skin dashed forward and leapt on top of the male spider’s abdomen. Gripping the rebar that was sticking out with both hands, it pressed the steel downward.
The protruding end of the metal weapon was hence plunged inside entirely.
While the male gray-headed huntsman spider was as tall as a two-story building, more than half its height was occupied by its legs. In fact, the widest section of its abdomen was just three meters.
As such, the rebar cut deep inside its abdomen this time.
It was a critical hit to the male gray-headed huntsman spider!
