No. 1 Son-in-Law - Chapter 37
Queena Ye tried her best to stifle her laughter as she ran off to bathe.
Wind Chen was very troubled by this and was about to search the story online when he received a text message from Lola Chinn.
Lola Chinn: You little scoundrel, have you forgotten me again? Why didn’t you even send me one message?
Wind Chen: I’m a little busy.
Ding.
Lola Chinn replied in seconds: I don’t care. I want to see you tomorrow.
Wind Chen: I need to attend a charity ball tomorrow night with my wife, so I don’t think I’ve got the time.
Lola Chinn: Just nice then. I’m attending that ball too. I’ll see you tomorrow night, d*ucheb*g. Good night.
The text messages stopped after that.
But Wind Chen couldn’t help frowning.
If the Chinns were attending the ball as well, then wouldn’t the fact that he and Lola Chinn were just pretending to be lovers be exposed right in front of the family?
Also, many other things were bound to happen during the ball. Would it implicate Lola Chinn?
“Oh, forget it. I’ll find a way out when I get there.”
Wind Chen decided to put aside his messy thoughts for the moment.
That night, Wind Chen continued to share the bed with Queena Ye. She said very sternly that they had to maintain a distance between each other, but when morning rolled around, she was snuggled in Wind Chen’s embrace like a lazy little cat.
When she woke up to find herself in this embarrassing position, Queena Ye couldn’t help but blush.
“You don’t have to be so shy. We’re an old married couple already.”
“Tsk! We’re no old married couple.” Queena Ye flipped to the side, leaving Wind Chen with her incredibly beautiful back view.
Wind Chen resisted the urge within him and got out of bed to cultivate.
To Wind Chen, cultivation was something that had to be done every day.
After cultivating, Wind Chen began to prepare breakfast. This was also something that he had to do every day, but this was more like a habit to him now. Even though nobody would dare to blame him for not preparing breakfast anymore, it wasn’t a habit he could shake off so easily.
“You’re really energetic today!”
Sue Lee had also woken up very early, and the first thing she did was to compliment Wind Chen.
“Er, yeah, I suppose?”
Wind Chen was a little unused to the sudden change in Sue Lee’s attitude towards him.
Sue Lee smiled amicably, then pulled Queena Ye aside to talk to her.
“Queena, how’s your progress?” Sue Lee asked Queena Ye in a hushed voice.
“What progress?” Queena Ye asked confusedly as she drank her milk.
“Progress with my grandchild.” Sue Lee glared at Queena Ye.
Pfft!
Queena Ye spat a mouthful of milk out.
“Queena, what’s wrong?” asked Wind Chen.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. Carry on eating.” Queena Ye waved her hands about.
“Yeah, she’s fine, she’s fine,” Sue Lee chimed in.
“Okay then.”
Wind Chen continued eating his breakfast.
Queena Ye’s face was all red as she whispered to Sue Lee, “Mum, why are you in such a hurry? I’m not getting impatient, so why are you getting impatient?”
“What sort of attitude is this? Hurry up and update me.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll update you. Gosh!” Queena Ye lowered her head and said, “Wind is a total blockhead. I’ve already told him about the story of the animal and the one who was worse than an animal, but he doesn’t seem to get it at all. There’s nothing I can do either.”
“So you’re saying there’s no progress at all?”
“You could say that.” Queena Ye was dying from embarrassment talking to her mother about such things.
“That won’t do.” Sue Lee thought about it for a moment, then said with a smile, “Wind has no experience in this aspect, so it’s only normal that he’s a total blockhead about it. You can just take the initiative instead of attempting useless hints like that story.”
“You make it sound like I’ve got experience. I’m not going to take the initiative. Over my dead body.”
Queena Ye shook her head repeatedly like a clockwork toy.
“I’ll just take the initiative then. That would work, right? Even if it doesn’t work, I’ll make it work. Nobody can stop me.”
Wind Chen suddenly said these extremely domineering words.
Both Queena Ye and her mother turned to stare at Wind Chen with widened eyes.
Queena Ye, in particular, was blushing so hard that even her ears were red.
In the end, the two of them realized that Wind Chen was on the phone, and whatever he just said was directed at the person on the other line.
“What is this about taking the initiative?” asked Queena Ye as she took the chance to scramble back to her seat.
“I just got off the phone with Grandpa. He asked if I received an invitation to the ball. I said I didn’t, so he said he’d get me one. But I said I could just go for it, and nobody’s going to be able to stop me from attending. What’s wrong with you? Why is your face so red?”
Wind Chen looked closely at Queena Ye.
“I’m fine.”
Queena Ye tried her best to put on a calm exterior.
“Are you sure?”
“Argh, you’re so annoying. Finish your food quickly and send me to work,” Queena Ye hurried him.
“Queena, don’t be so fierce,” reminded Sue Lee.
Queena Ye stared at her stupidly. “Mum, I’m your daughter here.”
“Whatever.”
Sue Lee took two pieces of bread from the table and passed them to Mina Ye.
“Thanks, Mum.”
Mina Ye was pleasantly surprised by her mother’s kind gesture.
“What are you thanking me for? Help me to pass these two pieces of bread to my husky,” Sue Lee explained her actions.
The smile on Mina Ye’s face instantly faded.
“Mum, you’re so mean.”
Queena Ye couldn’t help but laugh merrily.
Wind Chen couldn’t hold his laughter either. He realized that when Sue Lee was bullying others instead of himself, she did seem somewhat adorable.
Half an hour went by in the blink of an eye.
Wind Chen sent Queena Ye to work, then remembered his text conversation with Lola Chinn from the night before, so he decided to look for her.
It was going to be hard to hide the fact that he and Lola Chinn were only pretending to be a couple at tonight’s ball, so in order to avoid unnecessary trouble, he thought it would be good to discuss a plan with Lola Chinn beforehand.
He walked along the road at a leisurely pace, as if he was just taking a stroll.
When he walked past a bus stop, he spotted a somewhat familiar person from the corner of his eye.
To be exact, it was a pretty lady who was in her prime.
“Shea Tang?”
Wind Chen remembered this young nurse.
When he was confined in the hospital after the car accident, the nurse in charge of watching over him was Shea Tang.
At this moment, Shea Tang seemed to be in a rather awkward situation, because a young man was harassing her and insisting on sending her to work.
“I’m really sorry, but I’m used to taking the public bus,” Shea Tang tried to refuse the young man politely.
“I need to attend to some matters at the hospital, so sending you there is convenient. Come on, pretty girl, get into the car.”
The young man in white opened the door of his fairly expensive Maserati. It was obvious that he was some rich man’s son.
“Charles Yang, you do this every single day and claim that it’s convenient for you, but this has created a lot of problems for me, so I hope you can stop doing this. Also, I really don’t want to take your car to work, because I don’t want to invite any gossip. We’re people from two different worlds, so please stop harassing me. I’m really not interested in playing such games,” said Shea Tang very seriously.
When Wind Chen heard her say these words, he admired her for her attitude.
But the same words seemed to have agitated Charles Yang.
A mocking smile appeared on Charles Yang’s lips as he said in an even tone, “You work for the hospital owned by my family, so I could make you lose your job with just one phone call. Also, I can even guarantee that no other hospital in all of Chanyang will hire you. That way, won’t you be forced to switch to a different industry to work in? And do you know anything else besides nursing?”
“You’re going too far.”
Shea Tang was so angry that her face paled.
“So what if I am? It’s your fault for not accepting my advances when I was still playing nice.” Charles Yang smiled brightly. “You have two choices. Either you cooperate with me and accompany me for a few days, then I’ll give you a promotion and a raise or give you a sum of money, or you get out of my sight. Choose one.”
“YOU get out of my sight!”
Shea Tang was furious.
“Acting all pure and chaste now? Stupid little girl, just you wait. I’m going to have so much fun with you!”
Charles Yang smiled mirthlessly.
“Wow, those are some foul-smelling words. Did you brush your teeth this morning?”
Just then, Wind Chen sauntered over calmly and confidently.
