Mech: Shattering of the Galaxy - Chapter 56

Mu Fan had no energy to react to Black who was being a talkaholic, and he walked through the boarding bridge. This giant hole looked like an endless abyss through the protective glass, and across the bridge was that huge metal dome that stood there like a mountain. The butler led Mu Fan into a single unit. As the mechanical door opened, the room lit up in dim blue light. Mu Fan walked over towards one of the four single sofas and buckled up the seat belt according to the butler’s instructions.
“Young Master Mu Fan, this is the designated room for the Fuwen Corporation. Please sit still; you will feel weightlessness for a period of time when the train passes through the core. This is a normal phenomenon, so please don’t panic,” the butler kindly informed Mu Fan.
“Tsk, over-exaggerating again,” Black’s sarcastic voice sounded again in the earphone. It was quite displeased by the fact that Mu Fan completely ignored it.
“Okay.” Mu Fan nodded to show his appreciation. Then, he closed his eyes and didn’t say anything more, trying to sleep.
With a series of mechanical sounds created by gears, Mu Fan could feel his body descending as this dome-shaped train that looked like an iron mountain descended. After it had started to accelerate downwards, the weightlessness wasn’t as strong as Mu Fan expected it to be; it was even less than how he felt when he dropped down from the sky in his generation-zero mech in the PO Battle Network.
Fifteen minutes was short, and it felt like he had arrived within the blink of an eye. Aside from the short weightlessness in the middle, Mu Fan was glad to have tried a novel experience with such advanced technology.
This is the power of technology! Mu Fan thought to himself.
Black didn’t have the ability to read minds, so it didn’t know what Mu Fan was thinking. But if it knew, then Mu Fan would definitely be hearing something sarcastic once again.
How was such a mischievous A.I. even created!
Nobody could give Mu Fan the answer; maybe he should ask the designer of the PO Battle Network as Black had acquired its emotion updates from there! Black’s emotion simulation gathered the languages used in the PO Battle Network Forum that had tens of billions of users. The censorless language online made up the very basis for Black’s personality. Then, with the ‘prank algorithm’ that was extremely mischievous encoded by the Alpha Super A.I., the perfect Black was born.
Mu Fan had no idea of any of this when he walked out of the planet core train. The station was twice as large as the station where he got on, and there were even workers who were girls with great figures all around, unlike the all-male station on the other end.
When he walked out of the transit station, he saw towers after towers of magnificent buildings piercing through the clouds. The ultra-modern atmosphere was strange to Mu Fan who had lived almost his entire life in the suburbs of District 22. Is this the same planet that I live on? He pondered at the significant differences between the two districts.
“Young Master Mu Fan, please follow me. The vehicle is waiting at the door,” the butler reminded Mu Fan that the hover vehicle had already arrived at the gate.
Mu Fan sat into the hover vehicle and realized that the transportation infrastructure was even different from District 22. After the vehicle got on an interchange, the magnetic force of the bridge was strong enough to pull the hover vehicle and pulse its acceleration forward at an incredible speed. Mu Fan didn’t feel any discomfort during the ride.
He wasn’t showing his amazement on his face anymore, or else Black would never miss this chance to mock him again.
…
District 2 was a twin city with District 1. As the administrative center of the planet and core military base, District 1 had strict standards for building protections; they all had to be squared and short. Therefore, District 2 was designed to meet the living and recreational needs of high-level personnel who controlled this planet.
District 2 didn’t have a District Mayor in place, and it had the best living environments on this planet. The government spent a large amount of money to flatten the grounds, plant greens to create the most habitable living environment, and build the most luxurious residential areas.
Chubby Harry resided on the hill that had the signboard of ‘Mountain Villa No. 4″ beside Jiahe Avenue in District 2, and a manor stood on the hill. The Fuwen Corporation was one of the top five corporations on Planet Loga in terms of wealth, and it was only ignored by noble families because they had low political influence. Even though Planet Loga was the farthest border planet, the administrative personnel still had connections to the aristocrats in the House of Representatives and Senates on Capital Planet.
It was all about connections and power. The true aristocrats had their network on every corner of UGF. Some knew about this, and others didn’t. But for most people, it might be impossible for them to reach that level even until they died. Wayne Fuwen, the head of the Fuwen Corporation and Harry Fuwen’s dad, had been trying to get himself into this network as those businessmen without political roots would be seen as ants in the eyes of the true aristocrats.
Mountain Villa No. 4 was where the Fuwen Family resided. It was located on Jiahe Avenue beside the Center Island where the administrative personnel lived. For those merchants who had low political influence, they often purchased expensive living areas on Jiahe Avenue beside the Center Island so that they could get into contact with the administrative personnel of the planet.
It was an investment for the sake of political resources! Therefore, the Fuwen Corporation was trying their hardest to reach the threshold. His only son was going to attend the UGF enrolment exam in a few days, and amongst the news brought to him by Mu Fan, Wayne decided to hold a night banquet to get to know who he could team up with.
Those who could start from scratch and be successful should never be looked down upon.
Thus, it was the reason for this gathering of rich people and why Mu Fan was also here.
When they arrived at the gate of the manor, the butler proudly introduced the history of the Fuwen Corporation to Mu Fan. Mu Fan smiled politely as he only paid attention to fortunes; he didn’t worship it.
“Young Master Mu Fan, we have prepared clothes for you that were picked out by Young Master Harry. You will probably like it.” Before they entered the Mountain Villa, the butler kindly reminded Mu Fan according to how Young Master Harry’s instructions. Young Master told me to watch how I say things. I hope this didn’t sound offensive.
Mu Fan was touched by how considerate Harry was, but that didn’t last longer than one second before he regretted buying the suit… It cost him 5,000 star coins! That was almost all of his earnings for the past few days.
So, Mu Fan controlled himself as he softened his voice and said, “That’s alright. I think this suit is okay, but please pass on my thanks to Young Master Harry.”
When he saw the butler’s stunned expression, he repeated himself. “That’s alright, thank you.”
“Ugh, alright.” This was the first time that the butler misjudged a situation, so he quickly walked in front of Mu Fan to lead the way. Mu Fan who was in his high-class employee uniform of that tailor shop followed in his own pace behind him.
“This is too funny, look at how he tries to be cool,” Black’s voice sounded again smoothly and answered Mu Fan’s question without him even asking, “You want to ask me how I know even without the cameras around, right? That’s because it’s an earphone that you’re wearing, not an earplug! Hahahahaha, I’m so smart!”
Mu Fan didn’t want to say anything as he was at a loss for words.
“This old man’s not very honest, and his smile seems to be fake. I’ve noticed him before in front of the Budokan.” Black couldn’t stop talking once it started.
Mu Fan took bigger steps as he caught up to the butler and asked in a low voice, “Is that the entrance over there?”
The butler nodded and said, “Young Master Mu Fan, you could head in that direction if you no longer require my guidance. The second gate would be the entrance to the banquet for tonight, and you can contact Young Master Harry through the Skycom.”
Mu Fan thanked him as he said, “Okay. Thank you for your help on the way, and I’ll go there myself.”
The two parted. The butler walked back while Mu Fan continued walking forward.
“Black Egg! I’m really going to shut off the earphone if you’re this noisy,” Mu Fan said while clenching his teeth after seeing that there was no one was within five meters of him.
Black who was speaking its mind stopped talking and was stunned when it suddenly heard Mu Fan’s voice. “Em? You’re able to talk? No cameras yet, so you must be at that blind spot beside the second gate! Why did that fake old man leave?”
“Black Egg, are you listening to me!” Mu Fan tried to keep his face straight.
“Yes, didn’t I ask you if that old man left already?”
“…”
“Em? How come there’s someone from a tailor shop? Who’s coming tonight that’s of such importance?”
Mu Fan closed his mouth when two people who stood by the second gate turned around to look at him.
