Elsia’s Saint Theory (1)
Niel rode up on a horse and approached Aiden, asking him a question. “Why, why are you doing this? Everyone started moving all of a sudden.”
Aiden responded with a solemn expression. “The Prince is strange.”
“What?”
“He’s becoming more strange.”
“Then it’s a really big deal. It can be like this.”
“I’m afraid he saw Miss Elsia’s body. If he’s truly going insane—”
“Do you not have faith in your master?”
“The Prince has been a completely different person for the past 20 days. It’s a good thing slaughtering a monster, because if it were a human, he’d go down in history as an unprecedented tyrant.”
“That’s something I agree with.”
Isith, on the other hand, arrived in front of a blocked cave beneath a remote valley. Aiden exhaled a sigh of relief. This place reminded him of when Ixion first appeared. Isith stood still and silent in front of the plain cave entrance, as if expecting something to come out of it.
Anyway, Aiden breathed a sigh of relief when he realized Elsia was still alive. Then he whispered to Niel, who still had a distracted look on his face.
“It looks like Miss Elsia is coming out. It reminds me of that time.”
“……”
Niel didn’t appear to be pleased. He simply keeps his mouth shut. Aiden, who mistakenly assumed the silence was due to admiration for Isith, proudly stated.
“I told you, Isith is the Feltron Knight’s smartest member.”
“I don’t think it’s a joke.”
“You may believe so. In any case, we always add that it’s a joke for the sake of human dignity.”
Ixion got off Isith, gasping for air as if about to jump into a cave. It’s ridiculous, but his quiet back looks desperate. But there was nothing they could do but wait. Niel got off the horse quietly.
If what comes out of that cave is a monster with Elsia’s energy—. She probably wouldn’t have been able to use divine magic for very long, and because she was in a different world, the possibility that she was transforming into a monster couldn’t be ruled out.
He calmly prepared to use magic.
*******
‘What is this light connected to?’
I knew the monsters wouldn’t hurt me, so I didn’t have any hesitations, but I was worried because I didn’t know where to go.
‘Will Ixion find the Knights?’
It shouldn’t have taken as long as it did. Things become more complicated if the Knights flee after subduing the monsters. If I go out now, I’ll be hungry and sleepy, so I wanted to return to the Marquis’ residence so I wouldn’t look too bad.
I remembered people I tried hard not to think about. Of course, they’d think I was dead because I was trapped in the Monster’s cave. If they ask how I came back, I’ll say I don’t remember.
Of course, Ixion will try to find me, but because he is a reasonable person, if he realizes there is no way, he will withdraw without going overboard. The Marchioness would send a search party as best she could to find me, but it couldn’t have worked. They won’t be able to search for long because it’s getting cold.
‘Niel has no more research subjects, so did he return to the tower?’
Regardless of how things have changed, I’ll have to learn to live again. Even if my funeral is already over, it will be viewed with suspicion.
“Hoo…”
I took a slow step towards the light. In the background, the little monsters were crying and seemed to be cheering.
‘Can I return and live with these monsters—?’
I wasn’t sure I could watch the monsters die without thinking about it. My vision dimmed as I stepped out of the cave with a complicated mind.
“Elsia!”
Someone wrapped their arms around me and hugged me.
“Huh—”
A solid body, a familiar body. I could tell who it was without having to raise my head. The unexpected situation took me by surprise.
“I’m afraid you won’t come out—” The locked voice was filled with desperation.
“Uhm.”
“How much blood has dried in the last few minutes—”
I was startled, aware of the hot body temperature in my ear.
“Thank you.”
“…about what?”
Ixion took a step back and looked at my face.
“For being alive.”
“Yes—. How long has it been since?”
“It’s been over three weeks.”
“Ah.”
I had a strange feeling. His eyes were bloodshot, and his clothing was a mess. You’ve been looking for me for more than three weeks, haven’t you? A world has suddenly fallen, and a cursed body has been given. I thought I had to live a strong life, but I didn’t expect anyone to be concerned about my existence and wait for me like this.
Even in the world I lived in, there was no such thing as a person waiting for me. I expected to be alone when I returned because I had never been worried or waited for anyone.
Perhaps this is why I didn’t mind his firm touch on my shoulder.
“You’ve been hurt a lot—what is this all over your body?”
Looking at my bloody clothes, he said in a trembling voice.
“Well, I took care of it myself.”
“But you’ve still got a lot of scars. How often have you been attacked?”
“I’ll be able to use recovery magic for a few more days.”
“From now on, don’t do that.”
“What?”
“You’re putting yourself in danger in order to save me. No way. It isn’t for me.”
‘However, I’m not in any danger?’
Of course, it was for Ixion, but I didn’t feel I had made any sacrifices.
“You’re throwing me into hell.”
“Ah—Yes.”
I could finally see the incredible sight in front of me after Ixion let go. The Knights of Feltron appeared to be almost there. There were also civilians present.
“L-lady…” What’s the matter with the atmosphere? Everyone was staring at me with their eyes wide open.
“Yes, it’s amazing that you survived there for three weeks.”
I purposely looked around with naive eyes to show that ‘I don’t remember.’
“H-hey— Did you purify it?”
‘What exactly does that mean? Do you mean my body, which has been healed? The Lord of Wizard Tower is the only one who uses the term “purification.” ‘Did you happen to take notice of everything?’
In an instant, too many thoughts raced through my mind. “—Maybe?” I felt it was necessary to respond, so I did so as bluntly as possible.
Isn’t ‘purification’ a good word?
“Oh my goodness.”
In my response, everyone was visibly flustered. ‘What is it again!’ An incredible sound was heard beneath my feet as I began to panic.
“Mwa.”
“Oh my goodness!”
I was scared out of my wits.
‘When the hell did this kid start following me?’
White stood still at my feet, wearing my blue ribbon. Despite the fact that I was surrounded by humans, he never attacked anyone, and the eyes that naturally looked at me were dazzling.
“Did you purify Edes? The thorns have disappeared!”
“This is the first time I’ve seen anything like it.”
“Wasn’t monster purification only done in ancient temples?”
‘What exactly do you mean, purification!’
I felt like my mind was blanking out from embarrassment.
‘But he’s changed by rolling on his own?’
“No, it’s not like that—”
“You’re using divine magic, Lady! Was there anyone on the recent record with enough divinity to purify the Monsters?”
“Mwa.”
I was forced to hug him after he looked up at me and when I looked up at the crying White. He was even wearing a ribbon that I enjoyed tying, and it was impossible to ignore him as a child who had nothing to do with me.
“She must be a saint.” One of the civilians who came to see what was going on said, “Look,” and then said something ridiculous. “After thousands of years, you must be a Lady with God’s power!”
“Did you happen to see it? When the Lady came out, I even saw the Monsters in the cave making way for her!”
‘What keeps me out of the way! They were simply in the back!’
However, I couldn’t actively deny it because I couldn’t even make a proper excuse.
“Elsia.” Ixion frowned. “Is that why you asked about God the other day?”
“No! I’m just—”
I was just curious about Heim! But, even though I wasn’t sure, I couldn’t sell someone else’s name. But I couldn’t tell all of these people that the Monsters didn’t just attack me.
“Yes, I’ve known it since you began using divine magic that no one else does.”
“I see why Madam brought her up as an adopted daughter!”
“Oh, my goodness, isn’t this the blessing of our lands?”
“That’s why you were able to survive in that world, the space of monsters!”
‘No, it’s not like that.’
I shook my head with a perplexed look. It was then.
“Hahahahahahaha!”
‘Niel is here too?’
I frowned when I found Niel laughing out loud in the crowd.
“Hahahahahahaha! This is— Hahahahaha!”
‘Yeah, it’d be funny for a third party.’
Because he listens to Queen of Monsters’ nonsense as a Saint. I gave Niel a disapproving look. Niel just held his stomach and laughed as if it were the most entertaining thing in the world.
******
I was able to return to Marquis while being heavily escorted. It’s been a while since I comforted the Marchioness, washed up, and ate. As a result, the only time I could meet Niel was in the middle of the night.
“Seeing that Mana is stable—”
Niel grinned for a long time as he examined the flow of my mana, saying there was no big deal because I had purified it as much as I needed.
“You hurt yourself.”
“Yes, I did hurt myself.” I cast one more healing spell on the wounds that remained. “Perhaps we should call it self-purification.”
“You didn’t panic out there, did you?”
“For what purpose? The monsters didn’t even attack because it was so peaceful. Even, uh…”
I continued, catching a glimpse of White dozing on the cushion.
“I’ve become friends with him. Do you know who he is?”
“There hasn’t been much research done on monsters— Furthermore, such small objects usually stay in their world. But the Knights do call it “Edes.”
“I’ll have to look in my study for some books about evil monsters tomorrow. What do they mean when they say they’re purifying the Monsters?”
“The thorn is gone. It means the aggression is gone. A monster without aggression can no longer be called a monster. Because it doesn’t harm humans.”
Now, no matter how hard I stroked White, I wouldn’t hurt myself, so the ‘self-purification’ plan was over.
